Engagement

Post

The System engages with external entities on relevant issues through an active ownership and an outreach program to support DEI initiatives.

In support of expanding diversity of participation, leadership, ownership and control in the investment industry, the System is continually making efforts to expand its understanding of how investment firms and the Investment Division can build their teams to promote diversity.

Lenox Park
In 2021, the System engaged with Lenox Park Solutions, Inc. to provide comprehensive DEI data analysis for the System’s managers at both the plan and asset class levels. Lenox Park is a company that leverages technology and data science to eliminate biased decision‐making and capital allocations.

This relationship will help the Investment Division to gauge progress toward DEI improvement at the overall portfolio level with aggregate data sourced directly from the System’s investment managers.

Active Ownership Initiatives
The System recently added enhanced language to its proxy voting guidelines to promote diversity and racial equity and is continuing to research best engagement practices in this area.

Community Outreach
The Investment Division is cultivating relationships with local universities, high schools and middle schools to attract regional youth to the investment industry through educational and internship opportunities.

In 2022, the System partnered with the United Negro College Fund to source an intern through its affiliated network of schools.

In 2023, the Investment Division began delivering an educational program to Baltimore middle school students through Stocks in the Future, a financial literacy education organization.

Valued Partners
The System partners with several external organizations for idea generation, best practices, and financial literacy.
